The magic circle
The magic circle, magic ring, slip ring… it has many names, but what is it? It is a way of starting our work when we are going to knit in the round, in which we make a wide circle and begin to knit our stitches inside that circle and, when we have subsequently made one or two rounds, we pull the thread and it closes completely. Therefore, it has the advantage that it will adapt completely to the size of stitches we knit in the first round.
Uses of the magic circle
It is often used to start any round knitting project, especially shapes, motifs, amigurumis…
How to make a magic circle
To make the magic circle, follow these simple steps:
1- We make a cross with the thread according to the image.
2- We pass the needle underneath and bring back the left strand.
3- We have a ring left on the needle. The thread that goes to the ball is on the left side.
4- We pass the needle over, take the thread from the left, and put it through the ring we had on the needle.
5- We knit the stitches we want and pull the thread, according to the image.
6- The circle closes and adjusts perfectly to the measurement of our stitches. If what we want to make is a circle, we close it with a slip stitch to the first stitch.
